Shopping for Cakes

Went shopping for traditional wedding cakes for my Guo Da Li. Guo Da Li - "过大礼" is offering dowry and gifts to the girl's parents by the guy and his family. The girl side also will need prepare gift in return (as jia chuang - "送嫁妆").

We went down to "Le Cafe" at Middle Road to make enquiries as we loved the golf-ball size pineapple tarts from them. They have 2 types of cakes - Marble Round Cake and the Butter Cream Cake.

In the end, we chose the marble round cake as it will be more acceptable by most people. Butter cream are more unhealthy and make people feel greasy after consuming the cake. So considerate right? We placed an order for 12 wedding cakes.

Initially, the boss was not able to take our order as she will be busy making pineapple tarts for CNY. But I am really glad she agree to take our order regardless. The boss is even sweet enough to give us two soya tart. Really yummy. It is definitely nicer than the normal egg tart and much more healthier.

Here is the address for "LE CAFE CONFECTIONERY & PASTRY" - 264 Middle Road Singapore 188990 Tel/Fax: +65 6337 2417. For orders for pineapple tarts for CNY, please place your order early, else all will be gone before you know. Give the soya tart a try, you wont regret it.

Swollen Palm

My company send me for a training called "Empowerment of the Black-Belt Team". The 2-day program is held at Sofitel Palm Resort in JB.

Sofitel Palm Resort is very pretty resort as well. Food are great with alot of variety (e.g Japanese Food, Chinese Food and International Buffet). As the course are so packed for the 2 days, we did not have time to enjoy the facilities there. The rooms are so new and clean. Great place to go if you want to have a rest and relax trip, away from the busy city.
Overall, the experiential learning program is fantastic. The whole class had fun and at the same time, learn alot through the activities. The activities help to re-enforce the principles and make it easier for us to relate and understand.

This is the souvenir I brought back from the program. Got it through the break-through activity.

Wedding Card Selection

Went for our wedding card selection last friday at T-Dragon. There were so many couples waiting to select their wedding cards or collect their ready-printed cards. As the small shop is already with people, we were told to go for dinner first before going back to do our selection.

When we go back at 7.30pm, there are still a few couples left. We went to the whole file of wedding card designs and shortlisted the 3 designs below.

Seems like we like our wedding card to be in red color. Nowadays most people will not choose red cards as they find it "oh biang". But my bf prefer red cos he feels it is more unique. Haha.. Think we will be sending out our "bomb" in red..

The assistant at T-Dragon are very helpful and their prices are quite affordable. I only paid 10 bucks for the cards to add cute icon on the card. The card and printing are paid by my banquet hotel. They have alot of designs for cards, so anyone who wanna print cards for any occasion can drop by T-Dragon at Excelsior Shopping Centre, #03-13.

NDP 2008

Yeah... My bf manage to get two ndp tickets for this year. So i invited my good friend ET to go with me...
After collecting the funpack, we settle down and start looking through the contents in the fun pack. Found the temporary tattoo and decide to profess my love for the country.

At about 5 plus, the sky turn dark. Soon, it started drizzling. Everyone started to put on the raincoat. Oh gosh.. how come i am so unlucky! I quickly keep my camera to prevent it from getting wet.

Of course, the highlight of the day is the 6 Black Knights. They are really impressive.

The rest of the show was ok. Me and my friend started munching on the tibits in the funpack to off-load the heavy funpack. Great idea right?

The grand finale of the day is the fireworks. Beside the loud fireworks in the sky, the only other sound learn is "Wow". Haha.. The most special firework is the one with an "S" which stands for Singapore. Some picture to show the pretty firework that night.

Happy Birthday Singapore...

Amor Vincit Omnia (Love conquer all)

Everyone has wishes. Wishes to possess stuffs they fancy. I have been thinking about what I want until Samsung launches the stunning Omnia. OMNIA, which means ‘everything’ in Latin and ‘wish’ in Arabic, contains the best features in today’s mobile phones. One look at the phone and I fell deeply in Love with it. Owning a Samsung Omnia is my Wish and it contains Everything i would ever need in a phone.

Look up http://sg.samsungmobile.com/en/phone/phone_view/phone_feature.jsp?p_pfid_1=Samsung%20Omnia for all the impressive features Omnia has and I am sure you will love the phone as much as I do.

When my friend inform me about the Omnia Contest, I was hesitant. Much as I Love the phone, I find difficulty in expressing myself well through words. I am afraid of embarrassing myself too. But after much deliberation, I decide to give it a try. My strong Love for Omnia give me courage and motivation to write this blog entry in hope to win my dream phone. Now I believe in 'Love conquer all' which is 'Amor Vincit Omnia' in Latin.

Thailand - Phuket (Day 4)

The most important itinerary of the trip is on the 4th day of our Phuket trip. The reason is because I am taking my outdoor photoshoot. Really excited and nervous. Wonder how would the photo turn out. Oh yes... Think I forget to mention that my bridal package is with x-zen.

There are 2 photographers, 1 makeup artist, 1 videographer on this trip. Also with us is another couple taking the outdoor photoshoot with us. We have to wake up at 6.30 am for the make-up and hair-do. Suddenly it began to rain really heavily. Shit, how are we going for phootshoot if it continue to rain. Luckily by the time we are done the rain has also stopped. It was already 8.00 am. With my heavily make-up face, i went have at breakfast at the resort restaurant. Can you imagine how pairs of eyes are staring at me. Oh my gosh, i wish i can dig a hole and hide inside. Haha..,,

After the breakfast, i change into my wedding gown. It was another round of embarrassment. With my make-up and gown, i have to walk all the way out through the pool and lobby to board the van. Was so glad I am in a foreign country where no one would recognise me..

Our photoshoot is a fun and challenging. Fun because one of the photographer - Edwin is a very humorous guy. Make us laugh thus making the photoshoot a very enjoyable one. The other photographer is just as nice. He is call Ah Heng (ang moh - Lucky Lucky).. Both of them are very professional throughout. Alot of candid shoots are taken as well. Challenging is because we gotta climb up waterfall, climb up rocks, get into the waterfall and change clothes in the van.. But of cos, they have recce the place before and ensure it is safe for us..

On the whole, it was a very nice experience. But my shoes are so dirty because of the mud (due to the heavy rain in the morning) and it cannot be wash off and the buckle broke. Sighz. Maybe time to search for another pair of shoes.

Pray hard the photos will turn out fine.

Thailand - Phuket (Day 3)

This is our third day in Phuket. The last day we can enjoy before going back to sg. We booked a city tour package at 650 Baht person (original 1200 baht). We were picked up from the resort at 10am. Our tour guide for the day is a thai girl named Pam.

The first destination we went is the viewpoint. It is one of the island's best views. From this point can be seen the bays of Kata Noi, Kata and Karon, and also Poo Island. The viewpoint is between Kata and Nai Han Beach. One can view the beautiful sunset here but we went in the morning, so just a few pictures of the nice scenery.

Next we went to the lighthouse and took more photos.

The third destination is the Wat Chalong Temple. It is a place replete with history and legend. Many stories have been told about how the miracles performed there and how the wat played a pivotal and healing role in the fighting between Chinese secret societies ('Angyee') in 1876. Dun think I am gotta bored you with all the legends. Some pictures to show you how grand the place is.

After the visit to the temple, we went the elephant trekking, elephant show, monkey show and ox riding. We bought some bananas from the stall at 50 baht to feed the elephant while on the trek. The elephants are really greedy. They keep raising their trunks to ask for food. Really cute. The elephant and monkey show are equally entertaining. They manage to perform numerous stunts and keep the spectators clapping and cheering. The best part is being "Massaged" and "Kissed" by the elephants. The last activity is the ox riding. I would say the ride is pretty boring and bumpy. But it was a nice experience.

Finally it is lunch time. We went to Big C for lunch. Our lunch is the Teriyaki Grilled Chicken Rice, Spicy Grilled Chicken Rice, a Salad, a Fish nuggets with fries, 2 soups, 2 drinks at only 210 Baht. Less than SGD 10 bucks.
The last destination is Waang Talang - Palace of gems. Pretty obvious, it is a place that sell all the precious stones. The most scary parts is not the prices of the stones but the sales assistant. They will follow you up and down. No matter where you go. A sales assistant attached to per person/couple. I had a hard time trying to shake off them.

This is the end of our one day city tour. Pretty interesting and a Nice tour guide who bother to explain all the history and details to us.

Thailand - Phuket (Day 2)

This is the second day at Phuket. Gotta wake up really early in the morning as we are going for our island hopping trip. We had to eat our breakfast and be at the lobby by 745am. We reach the jetty at 830am. While waiting for the rest of the group to arrive, we are served coffee and tea. Pretty good service.

Taking the speed boat, we reach the first island - Phi Phi Lei in 45 mins. We are shown the Viking Cave which is the place where expensive bird nest are collected. However, the owner now does not allow boat to drive in as they are scare the flash from the camera will scare the swallow away. We also visited the Pi Lei Cove, Loh Sama Cove and Maya Bay (where the movie - "The Beach" is filmed) where we did some swimming and snorkelling. The water is very clear and we can see alot of corals and fishes. Oh.. the water is very salty as well (so much more worse than any country i went to)!!!

Next we went to Phi Phi Don island. We visited Don Cave and Monkey Island. At the monkey island, we were told to stand in the water to feed the monkeys in case they go crazy and attack. Monkeys are scare of water (Same goes for people born in the year of monkey - that is me... haa).

We had our sumptous lunch at resturant at Phi Phi island. Everyone was eating away happily as they are all hungry from the snorkel and swim, except me. I think I am suffering from sea sick. Oh gosh.. i can only sit there and watch the rest munching away... one serving after another.. We were on the island for about an hour before we continue our island hopping trip.

Our next stop was the James Bond island and the last stop is the racha island where we stay for the longest. We spend almost 2 hours on the beach. The sand is very fine and the water is very clear. Very pretty and relaxing place.

As I did not want to get to tan, I spend most of the time sitting on the beach chair, hiding under the big umbrella and putting on sun block.. haha.... Each pair of chair cost 150 baht for the entire day.

Bought some corn and ice cream to eat while we relax on the beach chair...

Time to head back to Phuket. Last picture of us at the island before we head back to our resort.

After washing up at the resort, we decide to go for a good dinner. SInce i did not manage to eat my lunch. haha .. So we went to eat at the seafood store oppsite our resort (too lazy to go far). There are so many stores but we chose Linda Seafood.

We order Tom Yum Goong, babercue fish and stir fried kang kong. The food was great and the boss - Linda is very chatty. The soup was great - spicy and sour. The fish is fresh and nicely cooked. Total cost for the dinner is 490 Baht.

Thailand - Phuket (Day 1)

Sa-wa-Dee-Kar Everyone... Here is a little update of Day 1 of the trip to Phuket.

We took an AirAsia flight to Phuket at 13.15. But the weather icon is showing thunderstorm.. Oh Gosh.. kinda of worried the weather will be rainy for the 5 days we are at there. July is consider a low season due to monsoon... The entire flight was pretty comfortable as we were sitting near the emergency exit and the seats there are relatively more spacious (although I should not be bothered since i dun have very long legs.. haha).

When we touch down at Phuket, a peep through the airplane window show a bright and sunny day.. Yipee.. We took a cab - Taxi Meter to our hotel - Deevena Spa and Resort. The journey to the resort is about 45 mins and the trip cost us 420 baht which is about SG 18.. Expensive right?
This is our room which is near the garden wing. Quite clean but alot of mosquitos.
A little elephant made by face towel. So cute right. The people are really creative...

On the way to the resort, the taxi driver recommended us a place where we can book package at a lower rate. We booked an island hopping package at 1600 baht each (original price 2800 baht). We also pick up some brochures from the front deak. Need to plan where we should go for the next few days...

After checking into our room and did some unpacking, it is already 4pm. We decide to go out for a short walk. Feeling hungry, we bought a thai dessert from one of the roadside shop. No idea what is it call but it is alittle too sweet for my liking...

We took a cab to Phuket Town to shop around the shopping area. There is a Central Festival Shopping Mall and a Big C (Similar t0 Carrerfour). We had our dinner at the MK steamboat resturant before heading back to the resort to rest.
